Gail Barney was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Town Council in January 2002 and was elected Mayor in June 2010 and again in November 2014. He served on the Planning & Zoning Commission from 1998 to 2002. As Mayor, Barney represents Queen Creek on the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council, on MAG’s Executive Committee and Economic Development Committee, the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board of Directors, as Chair of the Maricopa/Northern Pinal Gateway Alliance and represents the Town Council on the Queen Creek Public Safety Retirement Board.
Barney earned an associate degree from Mesa Community College and a Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University. He is an Eagle Scout and a 2011 graduate of the Town's Citizen Leadership Institute. A lifelong Queen Creek resident, he operates his family farm in the community.
